A Mailchimp alternative your AI agent runs for you.

Mailchimp is built around its email editor and automation flows. Sequence has neither: you describe the campaign to the AI agent you already use, and it builds the emails, texts, audience and timing. Here is how the two compare, and what moving takes.

Import our Mailchimp export, keep everyone who unsubscribed suppressed, and rebuild our welcome series with a text on day two.

What your agent does

  1. Step 1

    import_contacts

    Brings your list over

Export your audience from Mailchimp as CSV. Your agent imports it in batches of up to 1,000 rows, keeping names and fields as contact properties.

  2. Step 2

    import_opt_outs

    Keeps every unsubscribe

Import Mailchimp's unsubscribed and cleaned addresses so nobody who opted out gets mail again, even if they are not contacts yet.

  3. Step 3

    create_domain

    Sends from your domain

Your agent returns the DNS records for your sending domain and verifies them once they are live.

  4. Step 4

    upsert_template

    Rewrites the emails

Your agent recreates each email as a template in your brand. Paste the old copy in and ask for the same email, or a better one.

  5. Step 5

    create_sequence

Rebuilds each flow as a sequence

Sequences are straight lines. A Mailchimp flow with branches becomes one sequence per path, each with its own trigger filter or exit.

Sequence and Mailchimp, side by side.

Mailchimp facts come from Mailchimp's own pricing pages and documentation, checked on October 21, 2026. Sequence publishes this page; follow each source link to confirm what applies to your plan and country.

  • Pricing

    Mailchimp
By contact tier. Essentials starts at $13 a month for 500 contacts, with monthly sends capped at 10 times your contact limit. Free covers 250 contacts and 500 sends. Source
    Sequence
Priced per brand, not per contact. Pro is $49 a month for 3 brands, 30,000 emails and 500 texts; Scale is $199 for 10 brands. Free covers 1 brand and 3,000 emails.
  • SMS

    Mailchimp
A paid add-on on Essentials and above, after an application. Sold as monthly credits that vary by country. Source
    Sequence
Included on Pro and Scale in the same sequence as email. US only, after a business registration your agent can start; carrier fees are passed through at cost.
  • Building

    Mailchimp
A drag-and-drop email builder and Marketing Automation Flows (formerly Customer Journey Builder). Source
    Sequence
No editor or workflow canvas. Your agent writes templates and builds sequences through the MCP server, and you review previews and test sends.
  • AI and agents

    Mailchimp
Intuit Assist for content on Standard and Premium. An Intuit Mailchimp app in Claude and ChatGPT drafts campaigns you launch in Mailchimp. Source
    Sequence
Hosted MCP server whose tools cover brands, domains, contacts, audiences, templates, sequences, broadcasts, texting, social posts and reports. Connecting a social account needs a person to approve the sign-in.
  • Several brands

    Mailchimp
Audiences per plan: 1 on Free, 3 on Essentials, 5 on Standard, unlimited on Premium. Source
    Sequence
Each brand has its own domain, texting number, contacts and footer. 3 brands on Pro, 10 on Scale, then $19 a month each.

Why teams look for a Mailchimp alternative

Most people who leave Mailchimp are not leaving email. They are leaving the work around it: building each email in the editor, wiring flows by hand, and paying more as the contact list grows, including for contacts who rarely open.

Sequence moves that work to an AI agent. You say what should happen, and the agent sets it up through Sequence's tools. Texts sit in the same sequence as the emails, and the price follows the number of brands you send for rather than the size of the list.

What moving from Mailchimp takes

Plan an afternoon, most of it waiting on DNS. Your agent does the steps; you supply the exports and approve the results.

Contacts
Export the audience as CSV and import it. Fields become contact properties you can use in templates.
Opt-outs
Import unsubscribed and cleaned addresses as email opt-outs before anything sends.
Sending domain
Add the DNS records your agent returns. Until then, mail sends from Sequence's shared domain under your brand name.
Automations
Describe each flow to your agent. Branches become separate sequences with filters or exits.

Stay with Mailchimp if

You want to design every email by hand in a visual editor, rely on Mailchimp's template gallery or app integrations, send most of your texts outside the US, or never use an AI agent. Sequence is built for teams who would rather describe a campaign than build it.

Questions

Can I keep my Mailchimp templates?

Your agent can rebuild them. Paste the HTML or the copy, and it creates a Sequence template with your address and unsubscribe link added at send time.

Will people who unsubscribed in Mailchimp stay unsubscribed?

Yes, if you import them as opt-outs. Do that before your first send.

Does Sequence have a newsletter editor?

No. Your agent writes newsletters as templates and schedules them as broadcasts. You review the preview and a test send.

Is pricing based on contacts?

No. Plans set the number of brands and the monthly emails and texts. Contacts are not counted.

Ask your agent. Sequence sends.

Start free with one brand and 3,000 emails a month. No card needed.
